Dan Rose was born in El Paso, Texas,
where his father was stationed in the Army. They moved to Wayne, NE, in January
of 1955. Dan attended Wayne High School and graduated in 1972. He subsequently
attended Wayne State College where he met his wife, Kyle. The couple married in
1974, and Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration in 1975.
After graduation, Dan worked for J. M. McDonald, a retail
clothing company located in McCook, Nebraska. After 18 months, Dan decided that
he wasn’t suited for the long hours required by the retail business. Dan and
Kyle moved to Sioux City, IA, in 1977, and six months later relocated to Wayne
where, in 1978, he joined his father promising new business, Tom’s Body &
Paint Shop.
Not having any autobody background, Dan learned the
technical side of the business from his father, Tom, who had worked in the
autobody department of the local Chevrolet dealership for 25 years. Dan's
education in business administration coupled with his father’s body shop
experience proved a winning combination. The business at Tom’s Body & Paint
Shop grew and the building was expanded twice over the years. Tom’s Body &
Paint Shop now has a staff of one part-time and six full-time employees.
Dan was elected Treasurer of NABA in 1985. He was
convinced to run for President in 1987, after spending an evening in a Lincoln
hot tub with Dan Novak & Gary Hemminger—thanks guys!! He was elected that
year and held the office of President again from 1999-2001. He has served as the
Chairman of the Scholarship Committee since 1996, and was State Convention
Chairman in 1993 and 1999. He also served as Area 7 Representative. He is
currently a member of the Advisory Board for Autobody at Northeast Community
College in Norfolk, and has participated in annual Job Fairs in Wayne and
Norfolk through secondary and post-secondary schools as a guest presenter and
instructor.
Dan is very active in his community. He has been a member
of the Wayne Rotary Club since 1987, and has held a number of offices at the
local and district level. Dan was also a member of the 2001 Rotary Group Study
Exchange that took him to Australia. Through Rotary, Dan, Kyle and his family
have hosted seven exchange students, which has been a wonderful experience for
the family.
Dan has also been a member of the Wayne Chamber of
Commerce since 1977 and is currently serving as President. He is also President
of the Wayne Habitat for Humanity Chapter. Dan is an active member of the First
United Methodist Church of Wayne serving as Treasurer, Chairman of the
Administrative Board and Lay Leader.
Dan and Kyle have two daughters, Megan & Nick Haase,
who reside and work in Wayne, and Marisa Rose, who is a junior at Wayne State
College.
