Al Pfeifer

Al Pfeifer, Manager and President of Pfeifer Auto Body, Inc. of Madison was born the youngest of 12 to Richard and Magdalen Pfeifer of Madison NE. He attended St. Leonard Grade School in Madison and graduated from Madison High School in 1973.

Al attended Northeast Technical Community College, establishing his first shop during his first year in the barn on his Father’s farm south of Madison, naming it Pfeifer Auto Body. He graduated from NETCC in 1975, and moved his business into town along Highway 32. In 1979, he built the current structure along Highway 81, “on top of the hill”. The business remains focused on collision and glass repair with full service to the customer and managing much of the claims handling for them.

In 1981, he restored the ‘39 Chrysler that was driven by Johnny Carson in his teens. It was later used and gifted to Carson for the movie “Johnny Comes Home.” You can see this car just as Al restored it at the Car Museum in the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.

Al is a long time member of the Nebraska Autobody Association for over 18 years. He remains on their Board of Directors, and has also served as president. He has served on organizational committees for conventions in Norfolk, Sioux City, and Columbus. He and his two full time employees attend educational events to update their skills regularly. He is on the Northeast Community College Auto Body program advisory board, and regularly interns a student from the program. Madison High School students shadow him for a day each year to promote the collision repair vocation. He is active in St. Leonard Church , serving as, choir member, EMHC, Bazaar chairman, CCD instructor, and past Council member and officer . He is a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Madison Council. He is active in the Madison Chamber of Commerce. He is currently President of the Madison County Ag Society that organizes the Madison County Fair each year.

Al is a Christian family man. He married Janet Wessel in 1980 and together they manage all the office functions. Their children: Stephanie, Andy and his wife Rachel, Beth, and Dan currently all live and work in Omaha after earning their college degrees. He and Janet have lived their entire married life in Madison.

Al attributes his involvement in the Nebraska Autobody Association as one of the reasons he is a successful business owner. Through the networking with other shop owners and skills learned through the many educational events, a strong quality business was created and remains in Northeast Nebraska today.  Pfeifer Auto Body Inc. celebrated its 35th year in business this year.
