Don Wenzl

In 1952, Don started his metal career while serving in the U.S. Navy as an aviation Metal Smith. In 1956, Don left the Navy and attended Universal Trade School in Omaha. From 1957 until 1965, Don worked at various body shops in Lincoln. In 1965, Don got his first big promotion as Body Shop Manager at Randolph Oldsmobile in Lincoln until 1970 when he opened Wenzl Body Shop at 4315 N. 62nd Street in Lincoln.

Don was one of the early members of the NABA and served as Lincoln area representative for a number of years. Don also served as area representative for the ASA ( Automotive Service Association). Other associations include ASC ( Automotive Service Council), I-CAR, SCRS and the IGOA ( Independent Garage Owners Association). Don understood how important seminars and training could be. Don attended trade Shows from the beginning and learned a great deal from them. He was able to improve purchasing, cost controls and how to run a more profitable shop. Don credits much of his success to his early involvement with NABA. Don was a true leader in the state. His shop was one of the first to computerize, the first to purchase a downdraft booth, and the first to purchase a Smokeeater air cleaning system. Don also was a leader in the world by purchasing the first ever sold in the world, Celette MC7 Bench. In 1990 Don joined CARSTAR and in 1993 Don sold his shop to Greg Petersen and Bob Keith of Silver Hammer CARSTAR Omaha.

Today Don enjoys visiting his many autobody friends, woodworking and of course a round of golf now and then.
